Red Lion
This old coaching inn has served the village and surrounding hamlets of Cotherstone with fine ales since its foundations were laid in 1738. I'd describe this pub as a traditional, opened beamed, dales pub. Theres an open fire in the front bar and often a livley game of dominoes(5's & 3's)being played. The pub has a few claims to fame, aside from having Hannah Hauxswell as a neighbour, and playing part to one of the final sketches of 'The Fast Show.' The pub was the last heather thatched roof within the village, and was only removed in the thirties. The pub is in the Good Beer Guide 2007, was 'Runner-up' Darlington CAMRA Country pub of the year 2007, 2008 and Rural Community Pub of the year. It serves 3 real ales all year round, Jennings Cumberland, Caledonian Deuchars IPA and a local guest.
